 SHELTER AND HOUSING FOR THE HOMELESS IN DURANGO

The Resource Center at Manna

Traditional or longer-term housing needs assessment done through Manna case managers. Access to housing needs assessment may also be on walk-in basis when case workers are available.

VOA DURANGO COMMUNITY SHELTER

 The VOA Durango Community Shelter offers 24/7/365 residential shelter services. This includes the provision of all basic needs including meals, showers and laundry. The shelter also coordinates resource referral, counseling, and housing and service acquisition. A Veterans Transitional Housing Program and Back Home Program is also provided with in-depth advocacy and support services for veterans and their families. 

Shelter guests must be 18 years or older and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guests choose to participate in the program, and must abide by program guidelines and be alcohol, drug, and violence free. Pets are not permitted.

VOA SOUTHWEST SAFEHOUSE

 The VOA Southwest Safehouse operates 24/7/365 as a domestic violence residential shelter. Safehouse guests must be 18 years or older and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guests choose to participate and must abide by program guidelines.

ESPERO APARTMENTS: PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING

 This is a 40-unit 1-bedroom apartment development located at 1053 Avenida del Sol and opening fall 2021. It is for low income individuals, those exiting homelessness, or those living with a disabling condition. Supportive services and case management are provided by Housing Solutions for the Southwest with additional services provided by Axis Health, Southwest Center for Independence, and Manna Soup Kitchen.

Utilizing a coordinated entry system, the program will streamline housing and service coordination, prioritizing the most vulnerable among us.


HOUSING SOLUTIONS FOR THE SOUTHWEST

Housing Solutions for the Southwest operates a number of programs dedicated to helping people with basic housing needs. Their rapid rehousing program offers housing and advocacy services to those who are homeless and in need of short term (6-24 months) rental assistance, locating housing, and case management.

Housing choice voucher programs (Section 8) are issued to families where the owner of the rental property agrees to rent under the program. The waiting list prioritizes those who are homeless, disabled, and/or are survivors of domestic violence.

Housing counseling services are provided to clients including money management, searching for affordable housing, homeless services referrals, and information on local subsidized housing programs and how and where to apply.
